FTA DER Training
THE TRAINING COURSE - FTA
This FTA DER training course serves as an enhancement to the self-directed Designated Employee Representative (DER) training. The course outlines the protocols and procedures mandated by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) under 49 CFR Part 65 for specific employees within the transit sector, highlighting areas where these differ from or expand upon the drug and alcohol testing protocols specified in 49 CFR Part 40.
It is essential for the DER to comprehend and adhere to the specific requirements pertinent to the mode of transportation that governs their sector. Employers face the risk of non-compliance if they follow Department of Transportation (DOT) protocols without also adhering to those established by their modal agency.
DERs engaged with transit employees must possess a thorough understanding of the regulations set forth in 49 CFR Part 65, in addition to those outlined in 49 CFR Part 40, as well as the definition of covered employees as specified in 49 CFR Part 65:
This includes individuals involved in revenue vehicle operations, maintenance of revenue vehicles and equipment, revenue vehicle control or dispatch (optional), operation of non-revenue vehicles with a Commercial Driver's License, or performing armed security duties.
