DER Training (FAA) Overview
The Designated Employer Representative (DER) Training is intended to equip DERs with essential knowledge about the drug and alcohol testing industry and the supervisory competencies needed to ensure compliance with both the federally regulated U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements and non-regulated policies. This FAA DER course addendum enhances the self-guided Designated Employee Representative (DER) training by outlining the protocols and processes mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under 49 CFR Part 120, specifically for businesses employing Commercial Drivers License holders and others regulated by FMCSA. This addendum highlights where FAA requirements differ from or build upon the drug and alcohol testing procedures specified in 49 CFR Part 40.
It is vital for DERs to be well-informed and adhere to the specific FAA regulations. Failure to follow DOT protocols may place employers at risk of non-compliance. DERs in FAA Safety Sensitive positions, which include:
- Flight crewmember duties
- Flight attendant duties
